My families experience
reviewed on: 02/15/2019 by AnonymousMy Dad was first in Salem Terrace with Lewy Body dementia. My Mom was trying to keep the house but once she found out she had several TIAs she immediately decided that Salem Terrace was going to be new home. The staff treats residents with love and respect. My Dad passed away there over a year ago but they made him as comfortable as possible. We leave Mom there knowing she is cared for. My husband and i come from Richmond about 1x monthly. I have gained a reputation as being nicknamed (my name with Jr...my mom has my same first name followed by Sr. ) I wear costumes there for holidays. Except for some staff going elewhere...a good knowledgeable person takes their spot. Anyway...it is a wonderful place!
Salem Terrace is an outstanding provider
reviewed on: 10/22/2016 by Robert MunroMy wife of 58 years diagnosed with Alzheimer's entered Salem Terrace 18 weeks ago. Danna Owen, director of admissions was thorough and professional. On the tour it was apparent that she knew the Memory Care unit patients by name. Nurses and CNA's have been very professional, loving and caring. The Memory Care unit is bright and open giving residents a view of the entire facility from their individual veranda. The food has been nutricious and varied. As a resident of Roanoke since 1971, I chose to perform due diligence on four well known Memory Care providers. Salem Terrace was a clear winner. The experience has been enhanced by regular activities by recognized artists and by home grown musical groups. A dear friend who visited Carol asserted "this is the kind of place I would like to have" when needed.
Toured
reviewed on: 12/10/2015 by AnonymousI toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean, and all of the staff I met seemed friendly and professional. We ended up selecting another community, but this is somewhere I would have considered as an option for my loved one.
My mothers brief stay in assisting living was devastating to her physical and psychological health.
reviewed on: 02/28/2018 by Rebecca Shelor, daughterMy 97 year old mother was admitted to assisted living in Salem Terrace, Salem VA, in December 2017 and moved back to her own home in early February 2018. In less than three months she went from walking, talking, socializing, and exercising to an individual who stayed in bed all day, rarely ate, and had difficulty talking and walking. It appears that she has aged two years. She is now at home in a wheel chair, round-the-clock care, and demonstrates no stamina. What happened in such a brief time span? She has the appearance of someone kept on an overdose of drugs. This experience has apparently been so devastating to her physical and psychological health it is doubtful that she will ever regain any resembles to her prior self.
