How lucky we were to find the Hermitage!
reviewed on: 06/06/2013 by SuzanneFrom the first time we went on a tour with Lynette M., we realized we had found the almost perfect place for our loved one. We had visited other places but they fell far short of Hermitage. Lynette's honesty, warmth, and cheerfulness with not only us, but with all the staff and residents we encountered on the tour, were a positive factor in convincing us to apply for an apartment. Since that initial encounter, we have had only positive experiences with the staff and residents. The food is delicious, too. And, we know other folks who have decided that this is a great place for their loved ones.
I have been very pleased, the people are really happy and friendly, and very helpful.
reviewed on: 03/25/2014 by Loved OneI have been very pleased, the people are really happy and friendly, and very helpful. She gets more attention than I expected, especially considering she is still in independent living. Some of the caregivers will come and help her get to the activities and meals. The activities director is very responsive and willing to personalize some of the activities. The buddy system they promised never materialized. Some of the meal requests have not been done, even though they said they could, things like helping to make sure she can see and understand her choices at meal times. She keeps saying I don't know how they found so many nice people to work in one place. I have found the staff to be very genuine. They told me they have the same number of staff on the weekends and nights, and it does seem to be the case. I like the fact that it's a non-profit organization, it doesn't feel like a business. Another new resident's family looked at seven places and when they walked in they knew right away, and that made me feel good. Everyone seems to know her name, and I love that.
Offers Independent and Assisted Living
reviewed on: 07/23/2013 by Would Recommend Checking Out for Independent/Assisted LivingWe only toured The Hermitage but it was really clean. They had just replaced the carpet and you could instantly tell what floor you were on because the carpet was different on every floor. I believe the facility had four or five floors. We met a resident who showed us her apartment. She had all of her own furniture and she even invited us into her walk-in closet. When we were there they were hosting a pretty well attended ice cream social. Not sure if this is helpful but I saw pretty equal numbers of men and women that all looked like residents. This place felt more clinical than The Washington House, but the apartments had nice kitchenettes with a fridge and microwave.
They do a fantastic job with the care...
reviewed on: 02/13/2014 by Loved oneThey do a fantastic job with the care here, and watching out for Mom's overall health. She's in a safe environment with caregivers who are really on top of things. When I was looking into care options for her I looked through 5 years of the state health inspection records and this facility was one of the best in the state. They've really proven themselves. My Mom fell ill a few weeks ago, and an employee immediately realized it was more than just a cold or a flu and rushed her to the hospital, and the doctor told us if she had come in any more than an hour later she would likely have died of pneumonia. Another really great aspect of this community is that their maintenance department is outstanding. Any problems or simple installations you have (shelves, bathroom fixtures) they'll take care of quickly and professionally. They do have a few area I'd really like to see them improve on, however. Number one is the food. It is absolutely terrible. My Mom complains constantly, and I eat there myself once or twice a month and meals served for dinner have been uniformly awful. They are either tepid or outright cold. The activities also are not good. They are poorly organized and not advertised to the residents well. Those issues aside this really is a safe place, and the care they provide is amazing. I would recommend looking into this place during your search.
Absolutely wonderful!
reviewed on: 06/05/2013 by No Name GivenThe Hermitage is the best thing that could have happened. The people on staff are so compassionate, our loved one passed away peacefully in hospice shortly after arriving. It's unfortunate because we think she would have really enjoyed the Hermitage and their assisted living facility. The residents there seem to be very happy. The nurses were so lovely, they knew how to handle everything.
