This month, YouTube’s “Dear Me” campaign encouraged women to record themselves giving advice to their younger selves in honor of International Women’s Day. The campaign was meant to empower women and millions participated — including senior women with many years of wisdom.

Seniors Record “Dear Me” Advice
Three women in their golden years recently recorded “Dear Me” videos, giving advice to younger versions of themselves from assisted living at the Bayview Retirement Community in Seattle, Washington.
The senior living residents heard about the YouTube campaign from the Director of Community Outreach at Bayview Retirement Community, Jill Chang, who thought it was “incredibly applicable to Bayview,” adding that:
“The best advice you can get is from seniors.”
Three residents, Dottie Neufeld, 74, Rose-Marie Brown, 83 and Arleen Nelson, 88, were excited by the idea and chose to share their “decades’ worth of wisdom” with women everywhere.
Dottie, in her “Dear Me” video, encourages herself to “Get out in the sunshine” and tells herself: “You are beautiful.”
Rose-Marie says to “Keep on dreaming,” and shares a story about her dream to move from Germany to the U.S. — one that she accomplished, and one she believes anyone can do too.
Finally, Arlene tells herself in her video “Not ever to get trapped into a five year plan,” and to “Just continue being you.”
