Excellent care for Dad and Mom.
reviewed on: 04/20/2020 by Bill PfefferleDad and Mom moved into Worthington Christian Village from their long-time home in Worthington. WCV quickly became their new home. They had a spacious two room third floor apartment with a kitchen so Dad could continue to make them breakfast. Dinner each evening in the dining room was a social event. They made many friends of other couples as well as singles. Concerts on the lawn, weekly Bingo games, movies in the multi-purpose room and Church there on Sundays were some of their favorite activities. When Dad’s health took a turn, he came back from the hospital to seventh floor for full nursing care. Mom could easily go up to spend time with Dad before he passed. We then moved Mom to a smaller apartment on fifth floor. She remained in that independent living apartment for several more years. As her health declined, she relocated to sixth floor - assisted living. The staff there took over administering her meds and made sure she ate regularly. That efficiency apartment was just what she needed. Activities and group discussions helped her stay connected to other residents. She was alway allowed to go down to the main dining room on first floor if she had company. In December she took a turn with a fever and a touch of pneumonia. After about two weeks in the hospital, she came back to seventh floor, as she needed full nursing attention. The staff there cared for her very lovingly. She had a window looking west so she could enjoy sunsets. She never was a mornin person. When the Covid lockdown occurred, visitors were not allowed in the building. Two of the nurses on seventh floor reached out with an offer to videochat using FaceTime. Both of my sisters and I were able to see Mom and chat with her regularly. A few weeks into the lockdown, Mom had Sunday lunch and was her normal charming grateful self. After she was comfortable in bed for an afternoon nap an aid checked on her and noticed a substantial change in her condition. They called me so I could be with her. After screening at the front door and getting masks, my wife and I came to Mom’s room. Her breathing was shallow. I talked to her and held her hand... about 45 minutes later, she peacefully stepped into Heaven. This passing was exactly how she would have wanted it. Surrounded by people that loved her. My family is very happy with every aspect of Worthington Christian Village. From the administration, to the health staff, to the food service staff, to the cleaning, maintenance guys and landscapers... everybody has been kind, helpful, and supportive of Mom’s needs. I would highly recommend Worthington Christian Village as a long term care facility.
