reviewed on: 12/25/2012 by A Place For Mom CustomerThey did not know I was coming. The Director gave me the tour, he was very nice and informative. They were experiencing a power outage but I was able to see everything. The rooms were spacious, this is an older building. I will follow up with a review after seeing the rest of the facilities.
Perfect Fit
reviewed on: 02/10/2014 by Gail BurkeFor any senior at the independent or assisted living level who desires an urban environment, this is the place. In the case of my 85-year-old father, Springvale Terrace offers all the attractions of the nation's capital while allowing him to be minutes from his children and grandchildren. And importantly, with many assisted living residences exorbitantly priced at $4,000-$8,000, Springvale is within his $2,600-a-month pension. This is the perfect fit for him. We decided on Springvale Terrace after touring it three times over the course of three years. We were suitably impressed all three times. My father's decision was long in coming not because of what Springvale offered but because of his resistance to accepting change and help. Over a three-year period we found Springvale's staff competent and friendly; the apartments small but clean (while the building is dated, every apartment is being remodeled with new senior-friendly bathrooms, kitchen appliances, and carpet); and the activities bountiful. Also, Springvale offers flexible levels of care. When we first began touring facilities, my father was at the independent living level. However, in the aftermath of a heart attack during Christmas 2013, he needed more care. He signed the lease for a studio apartment at Springvale in February 2014 at the Enhanced Personal Care level. In the future, he can receive more or less care depending on his needs.

reviewed on: 12/27/2012 by A Place For Mom CustomerThey had studios or one bedroom apartments. The facilities were a bit older than other I looked at. No skilled nursing available, so that wouldn't work for mom. There is assisted living downstairs with some odor. But i guess that is expected(?).
Worth Its Weight In Gold
reviewed on: 02/10/2014 by Gail BurkeThis service is worth its weight in gold! I can't say that it is worth every penny because, incredibly, it's free! The professionals here are knowledgeable and caring. Anyone engaged in finding quality care for an elderly parent knows that it is a long, winding, and emotional road. In my case, it took 4 years to get my 85-year-old father the kind of help he needed. My father is a very resilient person but he is also proud and resists both change and help. I'm so thankful that early in the process I turned to A Place for Mom. They were with me every step of the way. What I especially liked about the service is that their representative, Sheyna Dorfman, would call or e-mail me ever so often just to see how things were going. This is so important because during one's search for elder care things are likely to change. Everyone should be treated with dignity in their later years but also they must not be allowed to endanger themselves. It is a delicate balance. Whenever I hit a road bump, Sheyna was there to offer suggestions or just to listen when I needed to vent. The other great thing about A Place for Mom is that they do exactly what their name says. They are very knowledgeable about senior living options, and even can refer you to specialists regarding financial affairs. The list of residential care options A Place for Mom provides is super--it is really tailored to your parent's needs. In our case, my father finally ended up in one of the first places A Place for Mom suggested. It's a great fit for him. It's the right care level, Assisted Living; in his target location, Silver Spring, Md.; at a price he can afford. And, he is minutes away from his children and adult grandchildren. The day before my father moved in I sent this e-mail to my representative. I think it says it all: "My heartfelt gratitude to you, Sheyna, and A Place for Mom. You are an indispensable resource for any adult child who is trying to find the best care for their aging parent. Keep up the great work."
Very Nice
reviewed on: 07/11/2013 by VisitorSpringvale Terrace is a great community that was closer and more convenient for me, but my loved one wanted to stay in the neighborhood he lived in for 40 years. The location is really good and the price was incredibly reasonable. This community had a lot to offer for the price they are charging. Overall it was a very nice and well maintained community that I would have selected for my loved one, but they decided to be at a different community.
