Livingston is the parish seat of Livingston Parish, Louisiana, United States. The population was 1,769 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Baton Rouge Metropolitan Statistical Area.Livingston is the site of a gravitational wave observatory sponsored by the National Science Foundation through LSU. In September 2015, the advanced LIGO gravitational observatory in Livingston along with another one in Hanford, Washington, and the Virgo observatory near Pisa, Italy, detected the first direct Gravitational wave observation which was reported in February 2016. Marco Drago made the observation. As of 2016 he was based at the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Hannover, Germany.Livingston was the site of a major train derailment in 1982.
