Assisted Living Rules and Regulations in Iowa

Finding the best assisted living community for yourself or a loved one can be intimidating. Finding information online through state regulatory agencies is a great place to start. Many states provide accurate and current information on the backgrounds of assisted living communities to help consumers find quality senior care. Public Records and License Status

Iowa allows slightly above average access and transparency to care records. To learn more about the background of assisted living communities, visit the Health Facilities Consumer Report search page. Select “report cards” on the left sidebar. From there select, “ALP” for provider type to search for assisted living providers.

Violations and Resident Protection

Iowa provides a current and searchable list of licensed care providers online. In the same locations, consumers can search for violations, complaints, survey results and inspections. We found that all information is up to date (within 90 days) and searchable, making it convenient for consumers to learn more details about potential care communities.

Additionally, Iowa offers information on special licensing for each community as well as capacity information and contact information for communities. They do not offer information about payment types accepted at facilities nor do they show the pricing of the facility.

Iowa performs inspections every 24 months and is able to fine facilities found in non-compliance.
