Community Reviews
Comparable to others but not as close.
reviewed on: 12/05/2013 by DaughterCommunity was nice and very comparable to the one I chose. Clean with friendly staff and I think even a little less expensive but it wasn't as close and that was important.
Like a B&B
reviewed on: 03/23/2015 by AnonymousMaplewood is a lovely, caring community. The staff keeps you up to date on the progress of your loved one. The surroundings are beautiful and well maintained. More like a B&B than assisted living. Expensive, but well worth it.
our experience
reviewed on: 05/24/2021 by CarolThe community did a great job communicating with our family and keeping us updated. I would have liked to see more staff in the memory care facility but they were very attentive and there was always someone around. They were open to feedback and always made up feel heard. I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.
Nursing Home Situation
reviewed on: 11/27/2013 by SisterMy brother did not like this place and neither did I because that's more of a nursing home situation. The rooms are much much smaller and the place is across from the hospital. My brother didn't even want to go back and look at it a second time. It's just not what we were looking for.
Recently renovated, super c...
reviewed on: 01/26/2014 by AnonymousRecently renovated, super clean, bright, hardwood floors in apartments and common area and carpet in hallways. Relatively small community. Views are questionable (some rooms overlook a cemetery across the road, no expansive views that I could see, but it was also winter and all the trees were bare, so clearly not the best time for views anywhere). I toured primarily the memory care unit, and staff there seemed very bonded with residents - it was shift change, and there was lots of hugs and affection on both sides. Multiple activities - some group, some one-on-one, all with plenty of interaction on various levels - staff adjust the calendar for residents with a particular hobby or interest (e.g. they've recently added woodworking/carving at one resident's request) - and residents provide monthly input on everything, from food to activities to general issues. Seems like a place where residents feel heard, and respected, and the staff value allowing them to feel a sense of independence. They also have a 'brain gym' - setup of computers where residents can play games that are specifically engineered for those with cognitive impairment, send/receive basic emails, even Skype with those who aren't able to visit in person. Outdoor space is a fairly small secured patio with a rock waterfall in one corner - not the best I've seen, but could be nice in summertime. Farm-to-table meals (they even sent us home with a home-baked pie, made by their chef on the premises). The assisted living floor has a sunroom/greenhouse that was filled floor-to-ceiling with plants - all well cared for and extremely healthy - where residents can just sit and relax. Overall, I found the facility tremendously clean and welcoming, with residents who were highly engaged at all levels. The only drawback for me is the location, as it's a bit more urban than I think our Mom would like - though that's not a deal-breaker, in my view. My #2 choice so far.
